So the kids’ first day of school went well. The second day went alright too even though one of the twins has already ‘misplaced’ her lunchbox. That is one of my least favorite parenting tasks, finding lost things that should have been put away but weren’t and now no one knows where they are. Oy…
But what I really want to talk about is registration day at my school. If you know me at all, I do not like change and I do not like going into unfamiliar situations, especially alone. Well even if you do know me well you might not know that because I think I hide it pretty well. But I digress… Long story short, I was very nervous.
And it went well! All 15 of us in the session were commuters and most were nontraditional students (i.e. ‘old’ or at least not fresh out of high school). The staff was super helpful with answering questions and giving us a To Do list for the afternoon (I *pink puffy heart* a good To Do list). They pointed us in all the right directions including signing us up for financial aid counselors and academic advisers. So I have a schedule, parking pass, student id card, and books! I feel so ‘college student-y’.
Today I continued crossing items off the To Do list, my student loans were ‘signed’ online and I even got a head start on some prerequisites for applying to nursing clinicals (first shot of the required hepatitis B vaccine series).
I begin classes Monday morning. My current mantra is “I can do this, I can do this” (repeat a few hundred more times). I’m only taking 12 hours which is 4 classes (including a lab). I will need 13 hours in the spring to finish up my nursing prerequisites and then hopefully *fingers crossed* this time next year, I’ll be starting nursing clinicals (actual ‘nursing school’ with lectures and hands-on people practice).
And you know, as quickly as the last 12 years since becoming a mom has gone, I think this will go by just as fast and I’ll be a RN, BSN (registered nurse, bachelors degree) in no time. I just need to keep taking the little steps to get there and it’ll happen. I can do this.
Yes you can, Katie! Congratulations.

I am so proud of you Katie!!!! I know you are going to just fly through this schooling stuff. I know when I went back to school, I was really sad to get out. It would be really nice to be paid to just keep on learning. Anyway, have a fantastic weekend this weekend, as you deserve it before your first day back to school.

That’s wonderful! I know me going back to scholl after doing the stay at home mom thing (though I only did that for 2.5yrs) was a wonderful change for me. While hard at first I find that now I have kind of ‘refound’ myself as something other than a mom and wife (not that I don’t love that), and I hope you do too!!!!

I love college and you make it sound fun the second time around, too. It is probably great to see lots of other faces that are non tran students, too. I am sure you will make friends and learn tons of cool stuff.
