"Perhaps I'm old and tired, but I always think that the chances of finding out what really is going on are so absurdly remote that the only thing to do is to say hang the sense of it and just keep yourself occupied." -Douglas Adams

So I like to knit socks. It’s kind of a weird thing to do, I know. I mean you can buy socks for like a $1. But sock knitting is the best way I de-stress. Something about making lots and lots of itty bitty loops with yarn and 4 pointy sticks the diameter of spaghetti is relaxing. And about a week later, you end up with an awesome pair of one-of-kind socks!

I wish I had kept better track of my “sock count” for 2009 so far. It’s been a bit of a stressful year… I *think* I’m at 12 pairs. Most I give away though because I only have one pair of feet. Which brings me to the point of this post:

If you’d like to be added to my “Accept a Pair of Handknit Socks so Katie Can Stay Sane” Project, leave a comment with your shoe size, color preference, and what length you’d like (dress sock, crew, or inches above your ankle). The above blue sock is already spoken for (by me!) and I do have one pair of lavender socks up next for TBOMM’s wife. The only catch is I’m not promising a “done by” date. It could be next week, it could be Christmas. But I’ll get to them eventually. Because the stresses in my life probably won’t be going away any time soon…

  1. Count me in, Katie! I’d take any color that you have too much of. Mostly wear blue in sock weather… size 8.5. COOL!

  2. I don’t think you have photos of two of the pairs you’ve knit for me on Flickr. Want me to send you pics?

  3. Marie, you’re on the list!

And yeah if you think about it, I’d love to have pictures of your socks. I’m really bad about not taking pictures of socks I give away before I give them away. I guess I’m too excited that I’ve finished and ready to gift them. lol

  4. My shoe size is a 7 wide and I’d like socks a few inches above the ankles. I accept any colors but am fond of green, blue, purple. I don’t care if I have solids or stripes. You knit what you like and if I ever happen to have any hand knit socks I’d be delighted!

  5. Oh, I’d love to accept a pair of socks to benefit Katie’s mental health. Size 9 and that blue is pretty. Or stripes…

  6. Yummy socks? I’m in! Size 8 in a surprise me color. I normally wear my socks ankle length. But, I’m not picky.

PS. You’re so wonderful to share your sock creations!

  7. She will be so excited when you send them. I am not even going to mention them again, so that she is surprised. However, she will probably find out because I am giving her the URL to this new blog. Thanks again Katie! :)

  8. Katie, what is your yarn sitting on in your picture? It looks like my oven rack! :) Do you make doilies?

  9. Hmmm, looks like a little bamboo side table.

  10. I think Erin makes doilies, that’s usually a crochet item.

It’s a “distressed” painted bamboo table, I picked it up for $4 at Linen-n-Things a few years ago and my interior designer (aka father-in-law) said it works well there.

  11. Well I’m “distressed” that I didn’t know better; on both the table and doilies. :-/

  12. What a sweet idea, Katie. I’d love an orange pair, size 6, couple inches above the ankle. All my favorite sports teams’ colors are orange, and it would be too cool to have unique socks to wear with my t-shirts. Plus, orange makes me happy. :) Hope you’re doing well – you’re in my thoughts daily. ~Tracy
